Scottland Held by FC Platinum as Hardrock Cut the Gap to One Point

A goalless draw at Rufaro looked harmless at first. By the end of the round, it had turned into a costly afternoon for the leaders.
Scottland are still top of the Premier Soccer League, but their 0 to 0 draw with FC Platinum has made the title race much tighter than they would have wanted. The champions went into the match at Rufaro Stadium knowing that a win would put more pressure on Hardrock. Instead, FC Platinum defended well, stayed patient and left Harare with a point.
At first, the result looked like a frustrating draw. A few hours later it looked much more serious. Hardrock beat TelOne 4 to 1 and moved to 57 points. Scottland are on 58. With six matches left, the championship is now separated by one point.
FC Platinum deserve credit for making life difficult for the leaders. Under Thabo Senong, they have become a more disciplined side and they showed that again at Rufaro. Scottland had plenty of the ball but could not produce the moment that mattered.
The timing also adds to the pressure on the champions. Scottland have domestic responsibilities and continental football to manage, with CAF Champions League commitments demanding attention at the same time as the title race reaches its final stretch. That is where Hardrock may have an advantage. They can focus entirely on the league, while Scottland have to manage travel, recovery and selection across more than one competition.
Scottland still have a strong foundation. Their defence has been excellent, they have lost very few matches and they remain in first place. None of that has changed. What has changed is the room for error. Scottland have drawn ten league matches this season. Earlier in the campaign, those dropped points were easier to absorb because their lead was larger. That safety net has now disappeared.
Every remaining match will feel different because Hardrock are close enough to respond immediately. A draw can no longer be treated as a decent point if the team behind you keeps winning. Scottland did not lose to FC Platinum. They did, however, lose some control of the title race. Round 28 has made the final six games far more uncomfortable than they looked a few weeks ago.
