Hardrock Put Four Past TelOne and Move to Within One Point of the Lead

Hardrock moved to within one point of Premier Soccer League leaders Scottland after an emphatic 4 to 1 win over TelOne at Chahwanda Stadium. The timing could hardly have been better. Scottland had already dropped points in a 0 to 0 draw with FC Platinum, so Hardrock knew a win would bring them right into the leader's shadow. They did more than win. They made a statement.

Sambulo Simelane scored twice as TelOne struggled to cope with Hardrock's attacking pressure. One of his goals came after a mistake by goalkeeper Panashe Marovanyika, who failed to secure a loose ball and left Simelane with the chance to punish him. Donald Mudadi and Last Nyilenda also scored for Hardrock. Evans Katema pulled one back for TelOne, but it did little to change the direction of the match. TelOne later lost Nqobizitha Masuku to a second yellow card in stoppage time.

Hardrock are now on 57 points, just one behind Scottland. More importantly, they are carrying the kind of momentum that makes a title challenger dangerous at this stage of the season. The promoted side have won five league matches in a row and eight consecutive matches in all competitions. What started as an impressive first season in the top flight has developed into something much bigger.

For much of the campaign, Hardrock spoke carefully about the championship. Their focus was on competing, learning and taking each game as it came. That language is becoming harder to maintain now that they are so close to the top.

Kaindu has built a team that does not rely on one player for goals. Simelane was the headline act against TelOne, but Mudadi and Nyilenda also contributed. That spread of attacking responsibility could be important in the final six matches.

The remaining schedule will test them. Highlanders, Dynamos, MWOS, Simba Bhora, Bulawayo Chiefs and FC Platinum all stand between Hardrock and the end of the season. Scottland still lead and still control their own fate. The difference is that the gap has disappeared. Hardrock are now close enough to turn every Scottland mistake into an opportunity, and they look ready to take it.
